Winners of the 2020 IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards

The winners of the 2020 IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards were revealed at a special ceremony and gala dinner held recently at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin. A total of 18 awards were presented.

The IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards recognise excellence across the Irish manufacturing industry and its associated supply chain and are open to all companies on the island of Ireland. Indeed, Derry-based Seagate Technology, the Irish subsidiary of the US-based data storage group, was one of the entries from Northern Ireland and won the Smart Factory Manufacturer of the Year Award.

Boston Scientific won two awards, with its Clonmel operation being named the Lean Manufacturing Company of the Year and its Cork business winning the Best Use of Robotics accolade. The Micro/SME and Large Manufacturing Company of the Year categories were won respectively by Ventac and Dell Technologies. All the winners are listed below.

The IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards showcase exceptional achievement, teamwork and innovation in Irish manufacturing. The Awards competition was established to highlight the implementation of smart thinking to enable competitive manufacturing, while reflecting Ireland’s capacity to deliver world class manufacturing and attract inward investment.

The recipients of the 2020 IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards exemplified all of these characteristics such as cutting edge research & innovation, best in class manufacturing and outstanding teamwork as well as the valuable contributions being made to the both the regional and national economy.

Having won the ICT Manufacturing Team of the Year Award, Mergon International was also named as the IMR Manufacturer of the Year, after being selected by the Judging Panel from all of the other various category winners. The Product Innovation & Design Award was won by Dromone Engineering.

An award for Outstanding Contribution to Industry was bestowed on Intel Ireland, which last year celebrated its 30 anniversary in this country, having commenced operations at its Leixlip campus in County Kildare in 1989. Since then, over $15 billion has been invested in transforming the 360-acre former stud farm into one of the world’s most technologically advanced manufacturing facilities. Over the past 30 years Intel in Ireland has come to represent a diversity of activities across the spectrum of Intel business from advanced manufacturing to cutting edge research and design.

The IMR Life Time Achievement Award was conferred on Michael (Mick) Guinee, Chairman, CEO and Co-founder of Shannon-based Ei Electronics, which, under his leadership, has become one of Ireland’s leading indigenous electronics manufacturing and exporting companies.

Now in their second year, the Awards are run by Premier Publishing & Events, the Dublin-based international conference and exhibition organiser and publisher, in association with Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR), the independent not-for-profit Research Organisation, funded under the Enterprise Ireland/IDA Technology Centres programme, to provide applied research solutions and advanced manufacturing expertise, technology transfer and training to the manufacturing sector in Ireland.

The number of entries for the 2020 Awards has doubled since the previous year and the high profile sponsors added further prestige to the competition. The sponsors of the 2020 IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards were: Cobots.ie, Rhenus Logistics, AIB, BDO, Festo, GS1, SA Partners, Bank of Ireland and media partners the Business Post.

The 2020 IMR Manufacturing and Supply Chain Awards presentation ceremony and gala dinner was characterised by a sense of community and teamwork on the night, and marked a fitting conclusion to the opening day of the 2020 National Manufacturing & Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition, which was held at the nearby Citywest Convention Centre.
